SAROUK Mir carpets are characterized by both curvilinear and geometric patterns. The traditional designs consist of Herati, boteh, either an all-over or medallion layout. Sarouk carpets are of excellent quality. Antique (1900) Sarouk rugs and carpets are of extremely high quality and are being collected by museums and private collectors. The main colours used in the traditional designs are red, blue, burnt orange, ocher, and cream. New Sarouk rugs and carpets are made from excellent wool, cut medium high to high. Sarouk (also known as Saruq and Sarough) is a village around 50 km north of Arak in central Iran.
Foundation: Warps is mostly cotton; wefts are also cotton.
The colours of the rug look different depending on the angle from which you look at it.
