Qum: Religious capital of Iran and produces modern rugs. A city of northwest central Iran which is famous for very finely knotted rugs. Production began in the 1930's and most popular designs include floral medallions, all over designs, trees of life, botehs and compartment designs. Many rugs were woven and average knot count is over 300 asymmetrical knots per square. This carpet is made in the 1940s and showing a little sign of use, the design is garden design or compartment design.
The colours of the rug look different depending on the angle from which you look at it.
