Anatolian Mujur 9671 (antique)
Country of origin: Turkey
Length: 155cmAbout 20km west of Kirsehir lies Mujur, on the road from Ankara to Kayseri where, almost exclusively, prayer rugs are knotted. The knotting is medium fine, the pile is soft, shining wool, predominantly in glowing reds and blues. Typical of the designs of the Mujur rugs are the interlaid prayer niches, often with amulet-like symbols in the field, and the casket-like build-up of the main border which is filled with finely drawn geometric and floral patterns. The formats of the pieces – mostly ceyreks, this rug is probably early 19th century or late 18th century. Very worn and damage
